Boy stabbed to death

LAMKA, May 21: In a grotesque incident, a class XII student succumbed to his injuries after he was stabbed by an unidentified person at around 9:30pm near Rengkai Government High School yesterday.

The dead student has been identified as Jacob Malsawmlien, 18, son of Lalhngaklien of Pherzawl and presently staying at Peace Land SA Road in Churachandpur.

Jacob, a student of Vision Academy succumbed to his injuries at RIMS this dawn, informed a source.

The stabbing incident happened last night when Jacob went to collect some books from his grandparent’s home located near the Government High School.

A source informed that, Jacob was walking towards his grandparent’s home talking on his mobile when the assailant approached him and asked if he had a lighter with him.

Unaware of the man’s ulterior design, Jacob answered he don’t have one at which the man stabbed him at his right abdomen and ran away after snatching his mobile, the source informed.

Jacob after drawing out the dagger chased his assailant however he failed to catch him.

With blood gushing out from his abdomen, he fell down and shouted after which nearby residents and his relatives came out and rushed him to the district hospital from where he was referred to the RIMS.

He succumbed at around 4 am today.

His lifeless body was later brought to the district hospital  of Churachandpur from where a post mortem examination was conducted and later handed over to the family today itself.

Meanwhile, angered by the incident, local residents and friends of the victim imposed a bandh in the area. Most shops remained closed during the purview of the bandh even though vehicles were seen plying.

The CDSU in the meantime urged all schools in the town areas to remain closed for a day as condolence of the deceased student though it had made clear to one and all that no bandh has not been enforced.

The situation was brought under control after the Churachandpur DC Jacintha Lazurus and SP of the district alongwith other officials assured to arrest the culprits within three days and to provide ex-gratia to the family of the victim.

The district administration also provided a sum of Rs 50000 to the bereaved family through the DC.

Thanlon MLA, Vungzagin Valte , officials from the district , ADC Chairman Langkhanpau Guite besides others have also rushed to the district hospital doing their bits to solved the problem.

Meanwhile, the Churachandpur District Students Union , CDSU, has submitted a representation to the Chief Minister condemning the excuse of the District Hospital that the surgeon is not on duty during the emergency case of Jacob.

The representation copy which has been accessed by the IFP stated further that only due to the intervention of a selfless social service, Malsawnlien was been referred to RIMS, Imphal adding it fully denounces the gross negligence of Doctors and staffs in the district hospital .

The CDSU expressing dismay at this stated further that they were not at all helpful and were not readily discharging their duties.

It condemned the incident and demanded an ex gratia to the tune of Rs 5 Lakhs for the family and a government job for a family member on humanitarian grounds.

In the representation the CDSU has warned to launched an intense agitation if the verbal assurances given to them by the DC/Ccpur Jancintha Lazurus during a meeting at her residence that the culprits will be booked within three days period is not met with.
