The CM said, “We are living in the age of science and technology and most of our activities are controlled and fashioned by science right from the cradle to the grave. Science has therefore been recognized as driving force behind the human progress”.
The CM was attending the closing day of the five day long Science Meet at the Iboyaima Sumang Leela Sanglen, hapta Kangjeibung as the chief guest while RD & PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa attended as the president.
The Science Meet was organized by the Manipur Science & Technology Council, MASTEC, Imphal, STFM, MAPS, MACA and GENIM.
Further continuing with his speech the CM said that organizing Science meet every year in the state is a way of supporting innovation and a broader educational base.
While expressing that scientific capability is what determines the ability to overcome the challenges which lie ahead, the CM lauded MASTEC for organizing the Science meet.
He said the initiatives of MASTEC to promote science awareness are good for all communities and the students in particular.
“We have been facing new challenges like scarcity of resources, diseases and food security etc. In all these areas, our success will depend critically on the quality of our institutions of science and technology”.
“There is no escaping the truth that the nations of the world have to move to a low greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficient development path”.
All over the world, countries are chalking out strategies to achieve greater energy efficiency and a shift to renewable sources of energy. We must not lag behind in these areas, he continued.
“We must be among the leaders in the development of science and technology. As far as energy is concerned, clean energy sources need to be harnessed much more than what we do today”, he added.
The Chief Minister further said MASTEC should have a strong outward orientation for creating a platform for science popularization, technology transfer and to encourage innovators in the state, it may require stepping up alliances that will expose the young students of the state in other parts of India and abroad and enhance their competitiveness.
The time has come to give a new boost to science and technology in the state ad MASTEC has to take the lead role, he continued.
The closing function was also attended by Principal Secretary Science & Technology LP Gonmei, Director MASTEC, teachers and students from various schools.
Prizes were also distributed among the participants of the Science meet.
