IMPHAL, May 30: Locals of Kangvai Bazar today came out to the streets and blocked the Tiddim road.

The locals were angered by the alleged arrest of one Ngangom James alias Abung, 27 son of Ng Jiten of the locality last night around 11:30pm by 27 Sector Assam Rifles, E Company posted at Peace Ground, Churachandpur.

Speaking to media persons James’ mother claimed that her son has remained untraceable since he was picked up by the AR team.

Elaborating on the incident, she claimed that last night around 11:30pm, someone knocked on their back door asking to open the door.

Since they were speaking in Manipuri, she opened the door thinking that the persons were her son’s friends. As soon as she opened the door, some AR personnel in full combat dress wearing masks barged into the house and started questioning about her son’s whereabouts.

When she said he was sleeping in his room upstairs, the personnel went upstairs. She saw her son being held at gun-point by one of the AR personnel, while the others were busy searching the room.

Later they took James along with them, she added. The team also took a computer CPU and a mobile handset.

Family members along with the Pradhan went to the AR Company and enquired about the incident but they flatly denied any knowledge, she told mediapersons.

The locals pleaded with the Bishnupur SP and Churachandpur SP on the issue.

The locals later came out to the streets and blocked the road; however following an assurance from the Moirang OC to the local Zilla Parishad about handing over the boy to the Churachandpur PS by 2 pm this evening, the locals ceased their protest.

However there has been no report of handing over the boy till the filling of this report.
