NESO agitation on June 7

IMPHAL, May 31: The Manipur Unit of the North East Students’ Organization, NESO held a press briefing at the AMSU headquarter today.

The apex body of the several student bodies of the NE region announced their line of agitation against the centre’s alleged step motherly treatment of the states of NE region.

Speaking to media persons, assistant secretary, NESO and former AMSU president said the apex body of several student bodies of the North East region will stage a sit in protest at Guwahati against the challenges faced by the people of the region in other parts of the country on June 7.

The first line of agitation will be followed by the submission of a ‘organisational statement’ to the state Governors of the NE states.

Condemning the Centre’s treatment of the people of the region as second class citizens, the student spokespersons appealed to the intellectuals, students, civil bodies, politicians and general public to support the student body’s severe form of agitation.

NESO will fight for justice in several cases concerning a people of the region in other parts of the country including Loitam Richards, Okram Laba, Dana Sangma, he said.

General Secretary, AMSU Deepanjeet Ningthoujam while supporting the NESO line of agitation assured that AMSU will also pressurize the government demanding action in the said cases.

NESO consists of All Assam Students’ Union, Guwahati, Khasi Students’ Union, Shillong, Garo Students’ Union, Tura, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, Itanagar, Naga Students’ Federation, Kohima, All Manipur Student’s Union, Imphal, Mizo Zirlai Pawl, Aizwal and Twipra Students’ Federation, Agartala.
