Prepak `chairman` arrested

IMPHAL, May 19: Police today arrested the alleged chairman of PREPAK and another militant from the state since May 17 from separate operations.

The arrestee has been identified as Meisnam Biren Singh alias Achamba Luwang alias Oja Biren alias Chamba Luwang, aged 67, resident of Sagolband Meino Leirak, Imphal West.

A press-note issued by SP Imphal West said Biren was arrested from Uripok Tourangbam Leikai during routine frisking and checking.

Meisnam Biren Singh is also the advisor of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak, the report claimed.

Meanwhile, troops of 22 Assam Rifles arrested a PLA cadre on May 19 at Lamkhai Bazar.

The alleged militant has been identified as one Md Munan alias Saddam Hussain alias Ungo, 22 son of Md Makoi of Lamkhai, Jiribam.

The team also recovered one 9mm Chinese pistol along with a magazine and two live rounds from the individual, the PIB release added.

The militant has been handed over to the Jiribam Police, the statement claimed.

Further on May 19, an alleged overground worker of the Kuki National Liberation Front was arrested from Pangjol village, Churachandpur by troops of 46 AR.

The individual has been identified as Thangmeinlien alias T Liana, 46 son of Zamgin of Pangjol.

It has also said that the individual has confirmed his involvement in extortion and other illegal activities on behalf of the KNLF. The arrested OGW was later handed over to Imphal West Police.
