Rs 5 lakh reward for topper Md Ismat

IMPHAL, May 29: State Education Minister M Okendro today announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakhs for All India topper in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination 2012 Mohammad Ismat of Zenith Academy, Sangaiprou today.

M Okendro made the announcement during a felicitation programme of the All India topper at the Zenith School.

The Minister also announced another Rs 10 lakhs for the school management for producing excellent students.

Expressing his happiness over Md Ismat’s success Minister Okendro said, Ismat’s unparallel feat has done the state proud.

Ismat has shown that it is not a good school building to be at the top, but that it is the dedication and sincerity to one’s study which is needed.

“People of the state have proved time and again that the state is not behind in any field from other states of the country”, he continued.

He said, Ismat’s feat has somewhat strengthened the department’s resolve to bring a change in six month time, which was announced earlier.

The minister also stated that the state Chief Minister had also lauded the topper earlier in the day before he left for the national capital.

He wished the school authorities to produce many more students like Ismat in the future.

He sought the cooperation of the general public in the endeavour taken up by the Education department to bring a change in the education system of the state.

Meanwhile the topper Ismat lamented that the electricity supply in the state has negatively affected the students in their preparation for several exams. With just about 2 hours of daily electric supply, he had to use candles as an alternative to electric supply.

He thanked his school for his success. The school has been providing him with free schooling since class XI.

He expressed his dream to get admission in the prestigious St Stephen College, Delhi and sit for the UPSC conducted civil services exam.

The topper also expressed his desire to top the UPSC civil services exam and bring more name to the state.

Agriculture and Fisheries minister Abdul Nasir, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA RK Anand, Khurai MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, Principal Secretary Education and Home J Suresh Babu and school education director W Rajen Singh attended the felicitation.

Meanwhile, late in the evening the Education Minister congratulated a 16 year old student for braving all odds and coming out successfully in the Class X exam conducted by the BoSEM.

The student identified as Moirangthem Sapna daughter of Devan of Lamlongei Makha Leikai had passed in the second division with letter marks in Mathematics from Public High School, Lamdeng khunou.

Sapna has been supporting her family of a mentally handicapped father and a younger brother and sister.

Her mother had allegedly married someone else and staying with her second husband.

The minister assured all possible help in her studies and will enrol her in any government school she desires to be in.
