Students condemn forensic report

IMPHAL, May 18: Frontline student bodies of the state today condemned the forensic report on the death of Loitam Richard in Bangalore.

Students demonstrated in front of their respective schools and burned effigies of the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Karnataka CM Sadananda Gowda and State CM O Ibobi Singh.

The students also demanded justice in the alleged Okram Laba murder case and further demonstrated against the alleged racial discrimination of NE people in mainland India.

The students demonstrated in front of CC Higher Secondary, Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary school and Lamlong Higher Secondary School.

During the sit ins, the students held placards reading “We want Justice”, “Book the Culprits”, “Richard’s report shows India’s racial discrimination towards NE people”, “What are you doing, Mr Honourable Ibobi.”

While burning the effigies, the students also shouted several slogans demanding justice in the two cases.

Meanwhile, six student bodies of the state briefed the press at AMSU headquarters on the two cases.

Speaking at the meet, a spokesperson of the student bodies decried the forensic report of Loitam Richard of the Victoria Hospital, Bangalore.

The student bodies demanded a clarification from the concerned state police team that was dispatched to assist the Karnataka police in the investigation of the Richard murder case.

The student body lamented that the team had left for Karnataka some two weeks back, however it has failed to deliver any visible action on the case.

The student bodies further demanded handing over of the case to the CBI.

The student bodies have further questioned the inability of the police to take any action against the two accused in the murder case.

They further demanded swift justice in the Okram Laba murder case also.

The student bodies have warned of stern agitations in case the government fails to take up any action at the earliest.

The press briefing was attended by representatives of All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF), Kangleipak Students’ Association, Students’ Welfare Association of Kangleipak (SWAK) and Students’ Union, Kangleipak (SUK)

Meanwhile, the Shillong Manipur Students’ Union today submitted a memorandum to the State Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh demanding justice on the two cases of Richard Murder and Dana Suicide case.

Spokesperson secretary of academic affairs of the student union Kh Meiraba told media persons about the submission during a press briefing at the All Manipur Students’ Union office.

Representatives of the student body had arrived at the state today to submit the memorandum, he further informed.

He said the student body on May 13 had also handed a similar memorandum to the Meghalaya CM and Governor to be submitted to the Prime Minister of India at the earliest possible. The student body along with other student bodies of the region staged a sit in protest on the same day at Shillong.
