IMPHAL, May 31: The Department of Physics, Manipur University has made preparations for observation of transit of Venus across the face of the Sun on June 6 from 5:30 am to 9:30.

The transit will be observable in Imphal from sunrise up to 10.16 am of the day.

The transit is an extremely rare event that happens approximately twice a century.

The next transit will occur after 105 and half years.

Interested students who are willing to participate in the event can collect the details from the department.

A separate statement of the Manipur Science & Technology Council has informed that the council will be organizing a general awareness lecture program on June 4 at 12 noon at GP Women’s College, Imphal, prior to the Venus Transit Day.

Further it has also informed that MASTEC will arrange for free distribution of Solar Viewer to those who will visit the observatory unit at GP Women’s College on the Venus Transit Day on June 6 between 4.27 am to 10.20 am.

During the transit period, there will be spot quiz program for the participating students, it said.
