Union Home Secretary meets Vohra, discusses AFSPA

SRINAGAR, May 17 (Agencies): Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra and discussed various issues, including the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and rehabilitation of militants returning from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

During the hour-long meeting held on Wednesday night, Vohra and Singh discussed issues related to internal security and border management of the state, a spokesman of the Raj Bhawan said.

AFSPA, issues relating to the militants who had gone to PoK for illegal arms training and are now returning via the Nepal route, lands and buildings occupied by the army and other security forces and counter-terrorism measures were also discussed during the meeting.

Singh also discussed the trans-Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir with the Governor, the spokesman said.

Singh met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discussed security and law and order situation in the state with him.

Singh’s scheduled visit to Uri today for assessing the cross-LoC trade and interaction with traders was cancelled as his helicopter could not land in the border town due to inclement weather and heavy rain, official sources said.

The Union Home Secretary then flew to Jammu for a similar meeting with cross-LoC traders and officials on Poonch-Rawalakote route, they added.
