Zeliangrong bodies on Ijeirong incident

IMPHAL, May 31: The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) today expressed deep concern over the reported encounter between ZUF and NSCN-IM at Ijeirong village, Tamenglong district, killing two cadres of ZUF and injuring one NSCN-IM cadre.

Such encounter was taken place despite repeated appeal to shun violence, ZU (AMN) said, adding that it was against the wishes of the Zeliangrong people. It also said it is unfortunate for the Zeliangrong people in particular and the Nagas in general, according to a statement.

It said ZU (AMN) once again appeals to all the armed groups operating in the Zeliangrong areas to refrain from violent activities in the larger interest of Zeliangrong people.

Meanwhile, The Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) and Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP) Assam, Manipur and Nagaland have deeply regretted on the Ijeirong incident where two precious lives of Rongmei tribe lost.

In a joint statement, RNCM and RLP (AMN) earnestly appealed to all groups operating in Zeihlat area to shun violence, hatred and enmity and to refrain from killing and factional fighting.

The statement also appealed to all concerned to maintain peace, cordiality and mutual respect for each other in the interest of general public of the area.
