2 killed in road mishap

IMPHAL, June 5: A man who was hit by a Tata magic this afternoon around 1:40pm at the turning point of Loukoipat under Bishnupur district succumbed to injuries at the district hospital.

The victim who is yet to be identified is believed to be from Saikul.

The man who standing at the road turning was hit by the Tata Magic coming down the slope from Lakoipat after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a brake failure.

The dead body has been brought to RIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile, a little boy was killed when a speeding passenger bus hit him near Kakching Lamkhai Forest gate under Kakching Police station in Thoubal district this early morning.

The victim has been identified as Yengkhom Thoungamba, 5, son of Y Gojen, a resident of Kakching Makha Leikai Panjao.

The road mishap happened around 7 am near Kakching Lamkhai Forest gate when the toddler was mowed down by the speeding bus. He died on the spot instantly. The boy’s mother was about to pay fare to an autorickshaw driver when he suddenly ran away and hit by the bus.

The body has been handed over to the family after conducting autopsy at JNIMS mortuary.

In another incident, the body of one Paokholet, 32, who was found dead in the Sekmai River section of Sekmai Lai Haraopham yesterday, has been handed over to his family after conducting autopsy at JNIMS mortuary on Tuesday.

Paokholet, son of late Onkhojam Haokip, was a resident of Sita village in Chandel district. Police are now investigating into the death.
