IMPHAL, June 20: Two Havildars and three Riflemen of the 6th Manipur Rifles post, Jessami Ukhrul have been suspended in connection with the missing AK-47 from the arms cot of the post on May 23.
It may be mentioned that a police officials including DIG (Range-III), G Bimolchand, CO, 6th MR, KT Anal, and SP, Ukhrul, K Kabib had visited the 6 MR posted at Jessami IB and personally participated in a search for the missing assault rifle with the help of villagers on May 27.
The five suspended personnel have been identified as Havildar (062007548) H Ananda Meitei, Havildar, Cot Naik (062007575) K Bouchun, Rifleman (062010847) Haominthang Sitlou, Rifleman (0897044) S Mayoshang and Rifleman (062006484) Lenthomang Singson.
It may also be mentioned that following a stern direction from the state DGP, K Baral, concerned higher authorities had started taking official statements of all personnel of the 6th MR post at Jessami IB, Ukhrul since June 1.
The statements were recorded by an official team including SDPO Jessami, AC 6th MR, RI Ukhrul, OC Jessami, and two SIs under the supervision of the SP Ukhrul, sources had said.
