IMPHAL, June 12: The state government has assured that ex-gratia and a suitable government job would be provided to the next of kin of Paokholet Haokip who was found dead on June 4 near Sekmai River in Pallel under Chandel.

The development came after the representatives of the JAC seeking justice for the late Haokip met with Chief Minister O Ibobi at his office chamber today.

The meeting was also attended by joint convenor, JAC, Helam Mate, representatives of Chinalup and KSO, and village chiefs.

The Chief Minister assured the JAC that the government would pay ex-gratia and a government job to the next of kin of Haokip besides the culprits would be awarded suitable punishment as per law.

Ibobi also gave Rs one lakh from his Discretionary Fund to the JAC to help the bereaved family in conducting the last rites of Haokip.

Notably, the JAC had imposed an indefinite bandh along National Highway 39 (Imphal-Moreh road) beginning June 11 morning to press their demands. However, it was suspended the same day following intervention of DK Korungthang, MLA of Tengnoupal constituency and ADC, Chandel who assured the JAC to fulfil their demands.
