IMPHAL, June 17: The one and only daughter of Kshetrimayum Romeo who died a martyr during the June 18, 2001 unrest has now turned 11, learning in standard seven in RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya.

Goldy was preparing beautiful white flowers to shower at her late father’s last resting place at the memorial complex of 18 martyrs of June 18 uprising located at Kekrupat here.

Little Goldy told IFP that she felt bad while learning that the event is organizing in two separate places.

Ksh Bormani, the mother of Romeo while talking to IFP at her residence at Kshetri Leikai, said she does not like the way the event is arranged in two separate places, appealing to all concerned to observe the historic day in a single spot with full cooperation among all.

She also expressed her desire to declare the day as a holiday with full participation from all, saying proudly her son laid down his life for the people of Manipur.

Bormani also hailed, especially the AMUCO and UCM for their generous charity provided to her family.

She, however, expressed unhappiness over the maintenance of Kekrupat which is left without care. The place was clean for some time when the office of UCM located there.

“Now the memorial complex is left as if no one is there to look after it,” she lamented.

Asked about her granddaughter, Bormani said she lives just for Goldy and she also has high hope for her future by giving her good education.

Ksh Ranju, sister of Romeo said the people have started to forget the June 18 event. She wittingly said it is not necessary to appeal the people to take part the observance because the 18 people did sacrifice for Manipur.

A number of people from far flung areas in the state come and participate at the event every year but a few people in Imphal take part it, Ranju said.
