IMPHAL, June 2: The Special Intelligence Unit (SIU), Imphal West in its continued drive against criminal activities added another feather to its cap by busting a vehicle lifter gang and recovering 7 scooters.
The special unit also seized 8 lacs worth of SP capsules with four smugglers.
Regarding the first incident, the SIU team under the command of inspector K Ranjit and sub inspector Rk Miranda received specific information about the vehicle lifters and their area of operation.
Sources informed the police sleuths and further raided a house located at Khurai Heikru makhong today and recovered 7 two wheelers. The scooters registration numbers have been changed along with the embossed chassis numbers, while documents are yet to be seized also. The kingpin behind the gang is not arrested and police are on the lookout for them.
Meanwhile, another SIU team on receipt of a drug cargo intercepted 4 persons near North AOC today at around 5.30 pm. They were apprehended with four cartons of SP capsules worth about 8 lacs in the local market. The capsules numbered 62,784.
The apprehended persons are identified as Md Sabir Rehman, aged 24, Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai, Azizur Rahman,34,of Kshetrigao Awang Leikai, Lairenpokpam Bobby,35,of Thabalkhong Lisham Leirak and Md Faruk,27, of Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai.
It may be mentioned that the SIU since its inception in May 2012 has managed to recover a stolen ‘rice laden’ truck from Assam, busted a printing press at Paona bazar for making fake documents, intercepted a drug consignment from Tulihal airport seizing 41,050 capsules of Actifeel and other tablets, seized 650 gm of opium and recently busted an illegal ‘mini oil refinery’ in which 32 kilolitres of kerosene and zero petrol were recovered from Khurkhul village.
