Six individuals including village chief of Haochong thrashed by UG

IMPHAL, JUNE 28: At least six villagers of Haochong including the village chief have been allegedly thrashed by armed cadres of suspected ZUF militant this evening.

They were reportedly charged of helping the NSCN-IM cadres in the gun fight that took place in the wee hour of June 21 last.

According to one of the victims, they were summoned by the ZUF cadres on the pretext of having a meeting at Lukhambi community hall, Noney bazaar, on the reaction made by NSCN-IM published in local dailies with regards to the June 21 gun fight. From the community hall the villagers were reportedly taken in two vehicles at New Naga Ching area about 12 km north from Noney bazaar, where they were blind folded and beaten up indiscriminately.

The victims have been brought to RIMS hospital by the 10 AR personnel and the local villagers late in the evening. They have have been identified as one BT Baram, 60, village chief of Haochong, Baku, 60, Laban, 35, Youth secretary of Haochong, Gongjang, 43, president, Nampi, 40, village secretary and Kh. Arei, 55, president Inpui Union.

Meanwhile, Tamenglong MLA Janghemlung Panmei, visited RIMS hospital to take stock of the incident late in the evening and assured possible help to the victims.
