24-hr public emergency on ILP issue

IMPHAL, July 12: With the second session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly concluding on July 13, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System has declared a 24 hour public emergency in the state starting from the July 12-13 intervening night in view of the present impasse.

The public emergency will end on July 13 midnight.

Announcing the emergency today at a press briefing, convenor of the joint body, S Jadumani expressed the committee’s belief that the government will certainly consider the expectations of the entire state and do something.

While appreciating the present government for its achievements, the committee expressed its expectation of similar response from the government on the ILP system.

He continued, “Agitation like halting the rail line construction and barring of outsiders from entering the state will follow if the demands are not fulfilled”.

Anyone defying the collective moves must take full responsibility on their own, he warned.

He further condemned the state government for its brutality in keeping hunger striker in chains.

He said such treatments are not meted out to humans anywhere.

Co-convenor of the committee, Joy Chinga Khan said even Anna Hazare is not treated this way.

He further demanded an appropriate response from the state government for the inhuman and illegal treatment.
