CRPC 144 clamped in Phangrei after 4 die in violent clash

IMPHAL, July 1: The Ukhrul District Magistrate has imposed CRPC 144 at Phangrei under Ukhrul PS after yesterday’s violent clash which had left four persons dead.

Meanwhile in a drastic incident, a Shaktiman truck carrying villagers to attend the condolence meeting of the three killed during yesterday’s clash fell down a gorge killing three villagers on the spot and leaving five injured.

The Shaktiman truck bearing Registration no MNO1-4555 which was carrying over 40 passengers including men, women and children met with the fateful accident at Sihai-Khamasom junction (Lunghan) this morning at around 10:30am due to its steering failure.

Sources identified the three dead victims as H Thotchui, 21 son of H Chihanpam, H Tangkahao, 45, son of (L) H Vashum and S Pamching, 33 son of S Malungring all from Sihai Khunou Village.

Five persons including a woman were also injured and are presently being treated at the CHSRC Hospital Ukhrul.

Sources informed that the truck was heading towards Sihai khullen from Sihai Khunou (a distance of just 4-5 kms apart) to attend the condolence services of the three Sihai Khullen villagers who were killed yesterday during a violent clash at the foot-hills of Phangrei Peak (Zero-Point) which is 25 kms north from the Ukhrul Hq.

However, the villagers however requested the concerned police not to register any case on the accident as it was self-afflicted and as such the police have not filed any case.

Meanwhile the dead bodies of the three killed during yesterday’s violent clash has been deposited at the RIMS for post mortem. The bodies were shifted to the hospital by a team of the Ukhrul PS.

The three have been officially identified as Khangrah Pamleiyo, 27 and Kangrah Rawung, 31 both son of Shairei of Sihai Khullen and Khangrah Lyton, 27 son of K Yarpam of Sihai Khullen.

Injured Kangrah Ngacheimi, 22 son of Ngazek of Sihai Khullen has been evacuated to Shija Hospitals from RIMS this early morning around 3am after his condition was reported to have deteriorated.

Meanwhile, the Ukhrul District Magistrate has also imposed CRPC 144 at Phangrei area and in order to thwart more clashes between the two villagers, a combined team of the Manipur Rifles and the Manipur Police are continuing to guard the area since yesterday.

Meanwhile, all the leading Tangkhul Social Organizations, district administration and the Ukhrul District Police are checking the situation arising out of yesterday’s clash.

It may be mentioned that a violent clash between Sihai Khullen and Lunghar villagers over payment of tax of a disputed picnic spot at Phangrei Peak (Zero point) led to the death of three Sihai villagers while leaving another seriously injured at Ukhrul yesterday.

Sources had also informed that several women and children as missing from the spot.

According to sources, around 40 villagers of Sihai Khullen village, Ukhrul including several women and children were on their way to Phangrei peak for a picnic when they were stopped at the foothills by a group of Lunghar villagers demanding registration fee for entry leading to the violent clash on June 30.
