Representing the nation a team member of 81 sport players would participate in the London Olympic-2012. Among them 23 are women athletes, and out of it three are from Manipur- Laishram Bombayla Devi, Ngangbam Sonia Chanu and Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom (M.C. Mary Kom.)

Olympic player from Manipur, Ng Sonia Chanu and M.C. Mary Kom are hoping a medal. Expressing his confidence on a medal for Ng. Sonia Chanu, her coach Hansa Sharma told to reporters,

“In 48-Kg category, there will be just one group. A lot will depend on whether China opt to filed their lifter in this category.”

However, if China does not file any lifter in the 48-Kg category (in which Sonia is contesting), the dream of a medal for the 32-year old lifter from Manipur would be fulfilled.

Meanwhile, another Olympic medal hopeful Mary Kom also told to DNA,

“In Olympics if you win one bout, you are in quarterfinals. And keeping in mind my training so far, one thing I am sure of is that I’m going to bring one medal home… either Gold, silver or bronze, I can’t really predict.”

Speaking to Kanglaonline, Laishram Bombayla’s father and Secretary of Manipur Olympic Association, L Manglem Singh said,

“Considering her earlier performance in the 2008 Beijing Olympic, chances for getting a medal is very high.”

He also has the confidence that three of the strong Olympic contenders from the state would bring medals in their respective disciplines.
