HCBAM members meet Law Minister

IMPHAL, July 6: A three-member team of High Court Bar Association Manipur (HCBAM) today met Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid in New Delhi to press their demand for the appointment of appropriate number of judges for the separate High Court of Manipur from among the Bar and Bench of the state.

According to sources, HCBAM secretary M Roshni Piba, senior advocate Hijam Nandakumar and a member of the association met the Union Law Minister at his official bungalow at Teen Murti Bhawan in New Delhi at around 6 pm. The meeting lasted forabout half an hour.

The HCBAM representatives pressed their demands before the Union Minister and also submitted a copy of the memorandum which was earlier submitted through Inner Manipur MP Dr T Meinya. The appointment with the Union Minister was also reportedly obtained through Dr Meinya.

Union Minister Salman Khurshid assured that he would take up necessary action after consulting with the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

It may be mentioned that the HCBAM has been on cease-work strike for the last 25 days.
