Hunger striker released from judicial custody

IMPHAL, July 14: ILP hunger striker Kakchingtabam Birahari Sharma was release from judicial custody after the case against him was withdrawn today. 

Kakchingtabam Birahari Sharma, who began his hunger strike on July 6 demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit System in the state, was released from judicial custody after the case against him was withdrawn.

He was arrested under Section 308 of Indian Panel Code for attempting to commit suicide and was sent to Sajiwa Jail but later he was shifted to JNIMS after his health deteriorated.

The hunger striker was release from JNIMS at 4:30 pm today and was received by members of the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System at the hospital.

The member offered him water to break his hunger strike.

Later, he came along with the members of the committee at Manipur Dramatic Union, MDU, where he was again received with garlands by various meira paibi lups, civil organizations and individuals.

Speaking to media persons, KB Sharma said that he had lost hope of getting any quick response from the government.

He thought that his life will end here and so he has written his wishes along with his bio-data to be handed over to his wife.

He lauded the united efforts from hills and valleys, civil organizations, meira paibi, student bodies, general public in receiving the goal. The unanimous resolution passed by the Chief Minister and 59 MLAs have given him another chance to see the people of the state.

He further said that if the national parties failed to pass a bill to implement ILP in the state, then there is no need for those parties in the state.
