IE police rescues kidnapped persons

IMPHAL, July 17: On July 3 at about 6:00pm one person namely Mangoulen Misao, 30 son of Thangjakam Misao of Chasad Avenue, Imphal was kidnapped from New Checkon area by some unknown Ugs. Further on July 5 at about 8:00am on receipt of reliable information, a combined team of CDO IE, IW and 23 AR under the supervision of Kamei Angam Romanus, , SP IE launch a cordon and search operation in the general area of Khopibung, Khamenlok, Chalouphai, Agiyang, Songjang and Changsang villages to rescue the said kidnapped person. During the operation at 11:30pm, the kidnapped person was rescued from Changsang Village and one Maruti car blue in colour without regd. no which was used in the kidnapping was also recovered from Songjang village, said the Imphal East SP, Angam Romanus Kamei today during a media briefing.

The rescued person was handed over to the family member on the same day, he added.

Further briefing the media persons at his office, he said, “On July 10 a missing report was filed with the Porompat PS that Mangolnganbi alias Memthoi, 16 daughter of Haobijam Ibomcha Singh of Moirang-Chingmei, who was staying at the residence of Lairikyengbam (0) Mamta Devi wife of Purujit of Checkon Wangkhei Khunou for the last four years as a helper had gone missing since July 9.

On the basis of a reliable information, a team of Imphal East District Police and Imphal East CDO led by Inspt. Sh. Chandrakumar Singh, OC/PRT/PS and lnspt. P. AchoubaMeetei, OC/CDO/IE rushed to Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai and rescued the missing girl from the house of one Akoijam Shanti Devi (60) wife of AK Laingam Singh of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, the IE SP said.

He continued that on July 13, at 10:20pm on receipt of a reliable information that one Md. Atao Rahaman, 32 son of (Late) Md Heshamuddin of Lilong Awang Leikai a/p JNIMS Morgue Quarter, Porompat who is a care taker of JNIMS Morgue was abducted by some unknown persons from his quarter, a combined team of CDO/IE and Imphal East District Police under the supervision of himself rescued the abducted person from Khurai Ahongei Leikai near the house of Th Rustam alias Md Amjad Khan and arrested six persons involved in the crime and a Maruti Gypsy bearing Regn no MNOIW 1063 white in colour which was involved in the kidnapping was recovered and seized by the police team.

The SP further said that on July 16, at about 7:45 pm, a team of CDO/IE and Imphal East District Police under the command of P Manjit Singh, Dy. SP (CDO) IE and direct supervision of Md Hushne Jaman, Addl. SP (L&O) IE launch intensive frisking and checking at the Minuthong road junction.  

“During the said operation, one suspected vehicle bearing regd. no. MN-04Ikl~22 along with five persons were detained and frisked and a 7.65mm Automatic Pistol was recovered from one of them namely Thangtinlen Baite.”

“Further verification revealed that one of the occupants was Sh. Letkhothang Khongsai (55) son of (Late) Paokholen Khongsai, village chief of MongkotChepu Village, PS Litan, Ukhrul District.

“Sh. Letkhothang Khongsai narrated that he was abducted by the other four persons coming with him in the vehicle on gun point from his house at Mongkot Chepu Village. The victim Sh. Letkhothang Khongsai was rescued from his abductors and handed over to one of his relative on the same day.”

On further questioning, the four abductors namely Mangkholen Haokip, 42 son of Thangmang Haokip of Tuibong Churachandpur; Thangtinlen Baite, 26 son of Hemkholal Baite of B Phaicham Village, Churachandpur; Jamkhogin Guite, 18 son of Shothang Guite of M. Songel, Churachandpur and Tongsei Baite, 45 son of Thongso Baite of Chungkhopi Village, Churachandpur disclosed that they were active members of the UG organization KNLF (Kuki National Liberation Front).

They were arrested on the spot, he added.

On July 17 at 5:30am, a team of CDO/IE under the command of Inspt P AchoubaMeetei, OC/CDO/IE arrested one active member of KCP (MC) namely Kangujam Khoiraba Singh, 18 son of K Kheba Singh of Leimapokpam Bazaar from Yurnnam Huidrom Upokpi crossing along with one 9mm Pistol with mag. loaded with 3(three) live rounds.
