ILP rallies continue in state

IMPHAL, July 11: Another rally demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit System in the state was foiled midway by the state police this late evening at Singjamei bazar.

Meira paibis of several localities from around the Heirangoithong area today took out a rally demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit System in the state during the ongoing Monsoon session of the state Assembly.

The demonstrators had converged at the Heirangoi Bridge these late evening holding torches around 8pm.

The rally was organized by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System under the banner `Save Manipur, implement the ILP system`™.

However the demonstrators were stopped midway by a team of Singjamei police led by its SDPO Th Bikramjeet at Singjamei bazar area.

The police team further diverted the rally towards Singjamei Pishum thong.

The demonstrators further tried to march towards Keishampat from there; however they were again stopped by the police team.

Meanwhile, a minor scuffle broke out between the police team and the demonstrators.

Following which the demonstrators had to turn back owing to the police action.

The demonstrators shouted slogans including `Save Manipur`™, `pass the ILP system during the ongoing Assembly session`™, `We support KB Sharma`™s fast unto death movement`™, etc.

Later in the evening, the meira paibis march towards local MLA and PHE Minister I Hemochandra`™s residence passing through the Singjamei Keisham leikai Bridge.

However finding the local MLA`™s residential gates closed, the demonstrators shouted some slogans including, `there is no need for approval of the Centre regarding the implementation of the ILP in Manipur` and ended their rally at Heirangoi Bridge.

In may be mentioned that the meira movement on the ILP issue had started since July 10 as part of the different agitations undertaken on the issue.
