JAC warns intense agitation on MGNREGS

IMPHAL, July 18: While condoling the sudden demise of former chief minister and veteran politician of Manipur W Nipamcha Singh, the Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA) today urged the government to review its policy to deduct the MGNREGS fund to half.

In connection with the demand, a Joint Action Committee on Implementation of MGNREGS was formally formed at its emergency meeting held at Kuki Inn, Imphal today.

It may be mentioned that the MGNREGS fund which was under the power of the village authority is to be reduced to 50 percent while the other half is to be under the authority of the elected ADC and the MLA.

Speaking to IFP after the meeting, president of the JAC Haokhai Lupheng warned of another wave of agitation if the government does not pay heed to the demand.

Demanding the government to come out with appropriate response the JAC also warned to launch mass protest together with likeminded organizations.

Today’s emergency was attended by leaders of SAHILCA and CopTAM. It also adopted various resolutions in line with the organization.
