IMPHAL, July 25: A team of Imphal West Police Commando gunned down an underground suspect at Monsang Road in between Heinoubok and Taobungkhok under Lamphel Police Station at 8.19 pm today.
The deceased person is identified as Thongam Bobby, 32, son of Th Ibotombi Singh of Koirengei Bazar.
The police have recovered one 9 mm Baretta Pistol along with three live rounds, four empty cases, one Chinese made hand grenade and one Honda Activa (silver colour) bearing registration number MN-06/5A 0536.
A demand letter of Rs. 20 lakh signed by City Meitei of KCP was also found from the possession of the slain cadre. It was addressed to the Joint Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, L Joykumar.
Meanwhile, the police commandos had an altercation with Meira Paibis from Heinoubok and Taobungkhok when they demanded to identify the slain man. However, the matter was settled after some high ranking police officers rushed to the spot and consoled the agitating women.
