Militant slain at Kangpokpi

IMPHAL, July 15: A militant cadre of the Suspension of Operation signatory group Kuki Revolutionary Army was killed in a gunfight between the militant group and troops of the 43rd Assam Rifles at Haipi village under Kagpokpi PS around 1:15am of July 15.

The dead militant has been identified as SL Paolen, 25 son of Henkhohao of Leimakhong Henjang village under Sapermeina PS.

A police source informed that Paolen was killed during retaliatory fire from the AR troop.

On receiving reports about the presence of armed militant groups in combat dress, a team of the 43 AR conducted a search operation at the village, the source informed.

It is also learnt that the AR team was fired upon from a house by suspected militants and in retaliatory firing of the AR team one of the militant was killed.

The firing lasted for about five minutes.

The dead militant was later identified to be a cadre of the SoO signatory KRA.

The AR team also recovered an AK 47 alongwith a magazine with 25 live rounds and three empty cases, the police said.

The source also informed that several other militant suspects fled from the scene leaving the dead body behind.

Meanwhile, family members collected the dead body from the RIMS mortuary where post mortem was conducted.
