IMPHAL, July 2: The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has condoled the death of K. Lyton, K. Rawung & K. Pamleiyo of Sihai village who were killed on 30th June 2012 at Phangrei, Ukhrul District.

In a statement issued by NPMHR it said, it understands that there is a longstanding land dispute between Sihai and Lunghar villages. However, what appears to be premeditated violence and brutality that resulted in the killing of the three young men and gravely injuring another is totally and absolutely uncalled for and NPMHR condemns the same.

Calling for restraint NPMHR appealed to the leaders and elders from both villages to exercise their collective wisdom in resolving the dispute and to prevail upon their respective villagers to abstain from violent means and acts.

NPMHR further asked Tangkhul civil societies and other organisations to help and assist both villages in finding peaceful means to settle the dispute which has the grave potential to flare up again.

The incident has profoundly shocked and outraged the sentiments of people, it said.

It further added, NPMHR envisions a future generation who do not have to inherit such history of hate and conflict and prays that wisdom will prevail upon both villages.
