IMPHAL, July 15: Manipur State League relegated Imphal East team Youth Welfare Club, YWC, Thambalkhong lost its opening match of the Super Division Football League Tournament today on the opening day of the tournament today.
The match was played at the Khuman Lampak practice ground organized by the Imphal East District Football Association.
Youth Organization Sporting Club, YOSC, Khurai defeated newly relegated YWC by a solitary goal.
Winning club, YOSC controlled the match from the start, however its captain RS Reisomi failed to convert a spot kick in just the 6th minute of starting play which was nicely save by YWC goalie ZB Pecson.
Even though YOSC had maximum possession of the ball in the first half, they failed to convert any of their opportunities.
Gangmei Poulinmei netted the all-important goal from a pass by K Inao Singh from the right flank in the 48th minute of the match in the second half.
YWC received an opportunity to score an equalizer in the last minute through a free kick, however failed to convert it.
Kh Tomba Singh of YWC was cautioned in the 68th minute for rough play.
The tournament is participated by five clubs of the district and will be played in a single leg basis.
Kshetri Iril mapal Youth Club, KIYC, Kshetri Awang Leikai will meet Atheletic Brothers Association, ABA Kshetrigao tomorrow at 2pm.
