IMPHAL, July 20: President of the Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress, Kim Gangte and seven MLAs of the party will be taking part in the ‘Martyrs Day’ observation to be organized by All India Trinamool Congress at Dharamtala, Kolkata on July 21. The team has already left Imphal, said a release of the party.
According to the release, July 21, 1993, was a day that shook the pillars of democracy in Bengal 19-years ago, when the then Calcutta Police, under Left Front Government mercilessly opened fire and killed 13 innocent political activists and leaving 200 severely injured. It took place when Mamta Banerjee led the agitating crowd towards the Writer Building, Kolkata. Nearly 19-years have passed yet the Trinamool Congress has not forgotten that Black-Day of July 21, 1993 and the day had been observing as ‘Martyr’s Day’ since then.
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress team will also meet central leaders of Trinamool Congress including Mamta Banerjee, CM of West Bengal and discuss various issues of Manipur, it added.
