Truck driver assaulted

IMPHAL, July 6: A truck driver was assaulted by toll tax collectors at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai after the driver refuse to pay Rs 40 as tax.

The incident happened this morning at around 4:30 am at the IMC Toll Tax Counter at Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai

Speaking to media persons at Singjamei Police station, a member of All Manipur Truck driver Welfare Association said that a heated argument started when the driver of the truck refuse to pay Rs 40 as tax for his truck carrying goods of NE Transport Production. The driver asked the toll tax collector to take only Rs 20, on which the toll tax collector got angry and poke his right eye with an optical fibre cable. Later, other tax collectors present joined the fight and assaulted the driver.

The driver has been identified as Firoz Khan, 32, son of Md Abdul Halim of Keirao Litanmakhong. The owner of the truck is identified as Nasir Khan of Lilong Chairen Makhong. The registration no of the truck is MNO1-5438.

All Manipur Truck Driver Welfare Association (AMTDWA) has lodged an FIR at Singjamei Police Station.
