Water level of major rivers gradually rises

IMPHAL, July 29: Even if the paddy fields could not retain the rain water, the water level of major rivers of the state has gradually risen owing to the monsoon rainfall for the last two days.

According to the information received from the Control Room of Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the rainfall recorded at the Rainfall Reading Gauge installed at Raj Bhavan, Lamphelpat, Kangpokpi, Saikul and Litan was 27 mm, 29 mm, 17 mm, 11 mm and 15 mm respectively.

The drought-like situation will be solved if the catchment area receives about 30-40 mm of rainfall for not less than five days. The water level of Imphal River recorded at Minuthong was 781.625 mm, Nambul River at Hump Bridge was 780.825 mm, Lilong River at Lilong Bridge was 775.950 mm, Thoubal River at Thoubal Bridge was 774.125 mm, Iril River was 780.675 mm and Ithai Barrage was 769.200 mm.

However as on 5 pm today, the water level at Imphal River was 782.700 mm, Nambul River was 781.075 mm, Lilong River was 777.050, Thoubal River was 775.625 mm and Iril River was 781.650 mm.

Cabinet meet

A meeting of the state cabinet will be convened under the chair of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at his official Bungalow tomorrow to discuss the agricultural practices. Agriculture commissioner Rajesh Agarwal and agriculture director Palendro will attend the meeting.

The officials of agriculture department will table the report of field visits to the state cabinet tomorrow.
