IMPHAL, August 25: The JAC formed against the alleged kidnapping of Irengbam Irabanta by NSCN (IM) has called an 18 hour Manipur bandh from the midnight of August 29 till 6pm of August 30 against the silence maintained by the state government regarding his disappearance.

Declaring the 18 hour state wide bandh, the convenor, I Echan today expressed that the JAC is supported by several civil bodies of the state in its action.

The JAC alongwith representatives of AMUCO, NIPCO, UFP, IPSA and HERICOUN called a joint press conference today at the Manipur Press Club.

Meanwhile, speaking at the press conference, AMUCO organization secretary, Sanjoy demanded that the government should arrest NSCN (IM) town commander, Ukhrul Leishi, chief assistant officer, Francis and all those involved in the case at the earliest.

He questioned for how long the state government and the centre will let a free hand to NSCN (IM), and asked why the state government is not taking up any action on the issue.

He also expressed that the three MPs and the 60 MLAs need to work for the society and just for themselves.

What is the use of placing several central security forces and state police forces in Chandel, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul if they cannot even provide security to the people of the state, he further questioned.
