2 mobiles recovered at Sajiwa septic tank

IMPHAL, August 17: In continued operations at the Sajiwa Jail, the Imphal West police have recovered 2 mobile handsets along with sim cards from the septic tank of the toilet used by the KCP faction leader Thokchom Nando Singh.

It may be recalled here that, police conducted a search operation yesterday at the premises of the Imphal Central Jail, Sajiwa following orders of the Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Yumkham Lothar.

The notorious KCP leader Thokchom Nando alias Ibungo was arrested by police from the premises of the Sajiwa where he is lodged on Aug 14 in connection with the grenade attack at the Thongju Pechu Lampak residence of AMWJU President Ahongsangbam Mobi.

During interrogation, Nando had revealed that while in judicial custody he had acquired two mobile handsets along with several sim cards to maintain contact with his cadres operating outside the jail premises and that he had disposed off the handsets in the commode of the latrine before his arrest.

Police further said, the police team could not recover any item during yesterday’s search operations and it led to continued operations today.

The police today brought in municipal workers to flush out the septic tanks of the latrine used by Th Nando, in which they were able to recover the mobile handsets along with the sim cards.

Police believe the recovered sim cards would be of great use in their investigations.

Th Nando, son of Th Subol originally hails from Khangabok Part III but his present home address is Lamlong Bazar.

Nando was earlier arrested by police in connection with the kidnapping and gruesome murder of Lungnila Elizabeth and the murder of contractor Krishnadas of Kakching Khunou.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to establish the total number of under-trial prisoners belonging to all factions of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) by state authorities following a query from IB, an intelligence agency under the Union Home Ministry.

It may be recalled her that, both the Centre and the state government have kickstarted a peace process involving KCP factions in the recent months.

The dreaded KCP MC leader Lanheiba Meitei was released on bail and is presently being lodged at IGAR HQs at Mantripukhri.
