IMPHAL, August 28: Film Actress Elangbam Abenao and Olympian Hockey Player Kh Kothajit were honoured with M Ninthou Ningshing Mana (Art & Culture) and Th Ashokumar Memorial Award (Games & Sport) respectively for their achievements at the 30th Foundation Day Celebration of Union of Social Upliftment (USU), Khurai at Khurai Lamlong Keithel today.
Takhellambam Soraren was also honoured for his outstanding performance in the field of Literature.
The function was attended by Dr N Bijoy Singh, MLA, Khurai A/C, Thoudan Shantikumar, president, Union Social Upliftment, Mutum Churmani, president, HERICOUN and Sunil Karam, president, NIRCO as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Dr N Bijoy Singh, MLA of Khurai A/C, informed the gathering about the developmental plans in the area and invited suggestions from the locals.
He said that in five year time the Lamlong Keithel will be upgraded to a double storey building. He also suggested that if Khurai Girls High School is running with very less students then it would be better to combined it with Lamlong Higher Secondary School and use the land for building a market.
He further continued that to make an all-round development, we should also encourage our students in other fields like literature, sports, cultural activities etc.
He lauded the USU executives and volunteers for their selfless act towards the betterment of the area and appeals them to continue with the good work they have been doing.
Earlier, MLA Dr N Bijoy distributed Manipur old age pension to 593 beneficiaries of Rs 200 for 6 months at Lainingthou Ahanba Sanglen, Khurai.
In the later part of the programme, Th Munal Memorial Meritorious Awards were presented to meritorious students of class X and XII exams.
