Agitation against assault

IMPHAL, Aug 24: The Rongmei Lu Phuam, RLP today announced several agitations in case the state government fail to act up on the alleged assualt of one MS Leishiwon by state police commandos on August 19, 2011 at Telepati, Imphal East.

Decrying the alleged detaining and assault of MS Leishiwon, 31, wife of M Chon of New Cannan village, Ukhrul near Telepati on August 19, 2011 on charges of being a NSCN-IM cadre, the RLP today called a press briefing at its Langol Tarung village office.

The Rongmei Lu Phuam (RLP) will launch various forms of agitation starting from August 27 in the state and take the issue to the national and international levels to ensure justice to MS Leishiwon, said its president Palty Golmei today during a press briefing.

Speaking at the press briefing, the RLP president also called upon the civil societies of the state to support the cause.

He continued that the alleged victim had filed a case with the Manipur state women commission, however the commission had rejected the case after three months.

Meanwhile, advocate Salam Mangal said that after the MSWC had rejected the case after  three months the DGP was also approached but still no action had been taken up to punish the involved commandos.

If the women commission cannot take action in an issue concerning assault of a pregnant woman, where can the victim go or approach, he asked.     

MS Leishiwon further told media persons that even after a year of treatment she hasn’t recovered fully.  She cannot use her left hand properly and she cannot see clearly with her right eye.

Her husband John also expressed disappointment over the state government’s silence over the issue.
