Australian A-club team to play in state

IMPHAL, August 14: New Zealand professional Football club Wellington Phoenix will play a match against Shillong Lajong FC on August 26 at the Khuman Lampak, Main Stadium as part of the North East Super Series (A triangular series). The other team for the series will be United Sikkim FC.

This was announced by Jet Set Public Relation Event, Indian general manager Himanshu Pandey during a press conference at the All Manipur Sports Association office, Mapal Kangjeibung today.

The match between the New Zealand club and the Shillong Lajong will be the second match of the tri series.

The Imphal match is being organized by the Shillong Lajong FC, Jet Set Public Relation Event and the All Manipur Football Association.

The Australian-A League club will arrive at the state capital on August 25.

Speaking at the conference, the GM said the main objective of his organization is to promote sports with special emphasis on football in the country.

The first match of the series will be played between United Sikkim FC and Wellington Phoenix at the Guwahati Nehru Stadium on August 24 and the third of the series will be played at JN Stadium Polo, Shillong on August 30.

The final match of the tri series will also be played at Shillong on September 1.

AMFA secretary L Ranjit Roy said the main objective of bringing the match in the state and the participation of the association in organizing the series is too encourage the young players of the state.

He further expressed his hope that watching the international footballer play in the state will be beneficial for the state players.

He added that the Lajong line up against the New Zealanders will include around seven Manipuris including Renedy Singh, Sushilkumar, Chitrasen among others.
