Major militants boycott Independence day

Manipur,IMPHAL, August 11: As in the past many years, several militant outfits of the region is boycotting the Independence day celebration on August 15.

According to a joint statement of several militant outfits Coordination Committee, (Cor Com) Manipur, Hynnewtrep National Liberation Council, HNLC, Kamtapur Liberation Organization, KLO, National Democratic Front of Bodoland, NDFB, National Liberation Front of Twipra, NFLT, Tripura People’s Democratic Front, TPDF and the United Liberation Front of Asom, ULFA has said that the outfits have jointly called to boycott India`s Independence Day in the region on August 15; and as a mark of solidarity against Indian colonial occupation and military repression.

It has said that a general strike will be observed effective from 1 am to 5.30 pm in the entire region, the Western Part of South East Asia.

During these hours, essential services, emergency measures, media and religious activities are exempted from the purview of the general strike, the statement continued.

“It is our duty to give a fitting reply to the Indian political entrepreneurs by abstaining from such observations, to unite ourselves in grief and defiance.”

“Therefore, keeping faith in the collective strength of our region, we appeal to all our peoples to once again display our solidarity against India, the common enemy, by making the boycott and the general strike a complete success”, the statement said.
