IMPHAL, August 21:  The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) has strongly condemned the cold blooded murder of Mr. Chunthuigai Kamei, State Secretary, Zeliangrong Students` Union, Manipur by cadres of NSCN – K at Luangkao village, Tamenglong District, Manipur on 16th August 2012.

In a statement issued to the press, NPMHR stated that organizations indulging in criminal acts targeting civilians, particularly community leaders are against peace, unity and working against the interest of the Naga people.

Further, this murderous act, coming closely on the heels of the torture perpetrated by NSCN-K cadres on women, youth leaders, and aged elders of Haochong and Phallong villages indicate that there is complete disregard for the rule of law, justice, and human rights within the organisation, the statement added.

NPMHR further reminded that a mature society or nation is never founded on irresponsible acts of murder and bloodshed. Such senseless acts never define nationalism.

NPMHR calls upon each and every armed organisation to respect human rights and refrain from using violent means.  Accountable mechanisms also have to be put into place and unjustifiable acts should be strongly dealt with.
