Manipur Olympians felicitated by Manipur Police Department

IMPHAL, August 25: The Manipur Police Department organized a facilitation ceremony for the five state Olympian’s return and to celebrate MC Mary Kom’s triumph at the London Olympics here today at the Banquet Hall of 1st MR.

The sportspersons were given honorary reception by the department and each official that spoke at the event shared their gratitude and respect for each of them undividedly.

The event was graced by Home Minister Gaikhangam as the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion he expressed his heartfelt appreciation and honor for each of the Olympians and said, “Regardless of winning a medal or not just to be able to participate in such an huge platform known internationally and to be the face of our small State in front of the rest of the world is an achievement on its own”.

Further on he added that, even though our state might lack in giving facilities for sportspersons but when they perform they excel in it and he really appreciates this effort from every sportsperson.

Talking on support system, he felt the need for every parent to support their children in their ambition especially in sports as parents does not necessarily think that a career in sports is fruitful and the state as well as the people should also lend their support from people in sports.

During the function, MC Mary Kom was awarded with Rs. 5 Lakhs and the rest namely, L. Davendro Singh, L. Bombela Devi, N. Soniya Chanu and K. Khothajit Singh were awarded Rs 1 Lakh each by the Manipur Police Department.

Appreciating the response and the support from the people of Manipur, each of the Olympians promised to work harder and to bring home medal of success if they get to participate in the next Olympics.
