IMPHAL, August 9: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today observed the 70th anniversary of the ‘Quit India Movement” at the state Congress Bhavan.
The observation was attended by the several Congress MLAs and other members led by the party’s state president, Gaikhangam as the president.
During the observation, the MPCC MLAs, councillors and other members offered floral tributes to the portraits of several Indian freedom fighters.
The observation president led the other members in taking an oath to follow in the footsteps of the country’s freedom fighters who had led down their lives in the struggle for freedom against the British.
The observation was also attended by Congress Ministers Ak Mirabai, Francis Ngajokpa, Govindas, Okendro among others.
Speaking to media person on the sideline of the observation, the MPCC president said the observation was organized as an acknowledgement of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters during India’s freedom struggle.
The party MLAs, office bearers and members had also pledged to work for the development of the country without any discrimination on racial, communal or religious lines.
They had pledged to follow the freedom fighters of the country and work to bring peace, love and unity amongst the various communities residing in the country.
He further said that the party members have also pledged to work without any difference amongst the people of the hills and valley of the state to bring peace, love and development in the state.
Meanwhile, regarding an enquiry about the Irabanta abduction case from the media persons, the state Home Minister reiterated that much progress in the case could have been seen, if the family had informed the police a little earlier. Nonetheless, the police is trying everything in its power to find out the truth and bring home the missing man.
When asked if the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has been communicated on the case, the MPCC president replied that since the police is doing its work and as the culprits are yet to be confirmed, the government has decided not to include the centre as of now.
He further assured that the government and its police will do everything to bring justice on the case.
The state Home Minister also lauded Mary Kom for her unrelenting spirit at the London Olympics and for bringing home the bronze medal.
He said, “Even though there is a slight disappointment over Mary Kom’s loss at the semi-finals, we have to praise the player for her courage and unrelenting spirit”.
“The fact that a Manipuri player has managed to represent the country at the Olympics is praise worthy. There is also the fact that her technique has been commended the world over.”
