Students protest in Jiribam

JIRIBAM, August 16: Students of the Jiribam Higher Secondary School staged a sit in protest in front of the school organizied by the Students’ Union of the school under the banner “Maheiroisinggi punshi manghanbiganu, Eikhoi Lairik tamba Pami”.

The students were protesting against non-availability of teachers for commerce stream in the school. 

The students said there is an inadequate number of Commerce teachers in the school and the teachers who are posted at the school are all staying at Imphal.

The student demonstrators held placards reading, “ let us study”, “We want peace”, “Conduct regular classes for Commerce”, “Don’t, play with the students’ life”, “Students of Jiribam are also students of Manipur”, etc.

The union general secretary YK Kabir Ahmed said the sub division has been left far behind in term of education and lamented the state government’s neglect.

He said, the school has students but without teachers. Teachers posted at the school have failed to turn up till date.

He continued that the teachers always withdraw their salaries however they never come to take their classes.

He also said that a memorandum had been submitted to the higher authorities regarding the issue, however there has been no replies till date.

He further alleged that teachers who had failed to turn up are regular lecturers Somerandro Mukharjee (English), Rajen (Geography) and contract lecturures W.Rebica Devi (Commerce), Ajit (Commerce), Sushmita Devi (Engineering & Drawing), A.Angamba (Engineering & Drawing).

He further informed that the present crop of students could not even identify Lecturers Somerandro Mukharjee (English), W.Rebica Devi (Commerce), and Sushmita Devi (Engineering & Drawing).

He added that the lecturers however are drawing their salaries from Imphal.

Four student bodies, AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA had already conveyed a press conference on the issue on August 6. They had also urged the state education Minister to personally visit the school and inspect.
