The Manipur College Students’ Union students donates items to orphanage

Manipur,IMPHAL, August 11: The Manipur College Students’ Union today handed several items including eatables and dresses to the inmates of the Poirei Nawakon, Achanbigei Koirengei Children Home in connection with the upcoming Patriots Day during a simple function at the orphanage.

The function was attended by Assist Lecturer, English department, Manipur College, P Birachandra as chief guest and Meitei Leimarol Sinai Shang, secretary, Kangjam Chanu Sumati as president.

The orphanage has 15 single parent girls.

The items include two rice bags, three sets of eggs, exercise books, school bags, pulses and dresses.

Speaking at the function, Birachandra lauded the student body’s action and said selfless acts like sharing and donating are good for the society. Such acts of love and caring for others should be encouraged amongst the people of the state as part of celebrating an occasion.

He further urged the people of the state to come out and follow in the steps of the students and donate whatever they can.

Kangjam Chanu Sumati in her speech said the orphanage is run by the Meitei Leimarol Sinai Shang and added that the association has formed a separate body ‘Leimakol’ to look after the children home.

She added that the Meitei Leimarol Sinai Shang also runs a Leimarol Women’s Abode for the separated women, women living with HIV/AIDS.

She expressed that Meitei Leimarol Sinai Shang has not received any help from any other.
