IMPHAL, August 1: According to United Peoples Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) leader Ningthoujam Shanti, the insurgent groups should adopt public friendly policies to further the cause of liberation.

IFP caught up with the UPPK General Secretary while he was produced before the Churachandpur CJM this evening.

He mentioned that if the public wants a change in the corrupt system prevalent in the state, then they have to extend their cooperation to the cause of Independence.

“Without public support, there can be no successful revolution”, he added.

He said that the working of some outfits has not been in the interest of the people and this has further created a rift between the people and the revolutionaries.

“Those involved in the freedom movement needs proper indoctrination of revolutionary ethos, they have to respect the motives of the public, senseless extortion and use of arbitrary force is unbecoming of a revolutionary”, he said.

Detailing that the UPPK was the first to announce that there will be no extortion from the public, he said that various means have to be adopted for the group to become self sufficient.

“If we gain the trust of the public, then there will come a time when the people will voluntarily donate to the cause. I have firm belief that such a time will come”, he asserted.

He also observed that the coming of the different insurgent groups under the CORCOM banner is a forward step for the revolutionary cause.

He however mentioned that problem areas have to be worked out among the member groups and further streamlining is needed in order to adopt further policy matters.

The General Secretary with another three cadres inclusive of the UPPK finance secretary Birjit were apprehended in Nepal. The government agencies maintain that they were arrested from Bihar as a similar case of UNLF chairman Rk Meghen.

N Shanti has been charged under 24 FIR under the IPC.
