UPPK leaders Shanti and Inaocha sent to jail

IMPHAL, Aug 2: UPPK leaders, namely general secretary Ningthoujam Shanti and finance secretary Langpok have been sent to Sajiwa Central Jail after being produced at the court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class (JMIC) Churachandpur today.

It may be mentioned that a team of Imphal West police led by SDPO Madhunimai arrested the UPPK leaders from Patna Railways on June 17.  The arrested leaders were general secretary Ningthoujam Shanti alias Chinglemba, 46, of Sagolband Wahengbam Leikai, finance secretary Langpoklakpam Birjit alias Inaocha, 40, of Kwakeithel Kongjeng Leikai, battalion commanding officer Major Elangbam Bobo alias Khanganba, 36, of Hiyanglam and Captain N Jiten alias Selkai of Karimganj.

The four leaders were produced before the NIA Court in Imphal on July 17 and remanded to Sajiwa Central Jail. However, they were formally arrested again in connection with cases registered with Imphal PS, City PS, Moirang PS, Kumbi PS, Thoubal PS, Sugnu PS, Waikhong PS, Churachandpur PS and Parbung PS.

Bobo and Jiten were earlier given judicial remand but the other two leaders Shanti and Inaocha were remanded to judicial custody only today after being produced at the court of JMIC Churachandpur.

The arrested leaders will again be produced at the NIA Court in Imphal on August 16.
