CEO launches SVEEP campaign

IMPHAL, September 14: The Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation, SVEEP campaign was launched today during a function at the conference hall of the Chief Electoral Officer’s Lamphelpat Office.

SVEEP will help in the maximisation of enrolment of electors in Manipur during special summary Revision of electoral Rolls wrt January 1, 2013 as qualifying date.

The launching function was organized by the CEO.

Speaking at the function, CEO PC Lamwkunga said the introduction of SVEEP will help the youngsters who have been recently attained the age of 18 and rights to vote.

It will also help all unregistered individuals who have already attain the legal age but have not registered themselves as of yet.

The launching of SVEEP in the state of Manipur is an action plan of the Election of Commission of India.

He continued that his office have already instructed all district level authorities to start the campign.

He however, stressed that media houses have a large role to play for the survival and success of the campaign in the state.

Media houses and others including theatrical groups should help in spreading the awareness of the campaign.

Elaborating further during the function, he said that after the introduction of the Electoral Photo Identity Card, a voter’s photo has become mandatory to cast votes.

According to the 2012 census, Manipur has 1741581 voters registered including 851540 males and 890041 females, he said.

SVEEP uses Picasa software to check double entries of voters, he said.

He also expressed that using the said software, SVEEP has managed to find out 7300 duplications from a single constituency which has been rectified already.

He continued the same process will be used for the whole state to find out the duplicate entries.

He said that from October 1, his office will start rectifications of any printing mistakes on individual EPICs.
