Hunphung decries govt inaction

IMPHAL, September 27: The representatives of Thawaijao Hunpung Young Student’s Organization, Ukhrul has expressed its displeasure at government inaction and failure to complete projects in time.

In a press conference held at Imphal Press Club today village representatives said that there are three projects taken up by the state government and that none of them have been fully completed till now although the deadline to finish the projects is well overdue.

The first case of non-completion of project being the upgrading of the 6kms stretch of old road into National Highways from N.H. 150 to Kacchipung near Sacred Higher Secondary School. According to the information provided, 4.2km of the road is completed by 2.4 km is still left uncompleted even though the project was to be completed by 2011. The sub contractors for this project are S. K. Redee, and Ngaranmi of Ukhrul Dist. It must be noted here that 15 lakhs was sanctioned for earth cutting even though earth cutting wasn’t necessary in this case since it is an old road.

The second is the construction of Sports Complex at Paksi ground, the project is under Non- Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) for which an amount of Rs. 90,87,285 has been sanctioned. The foundation for project was laid in March 2009 by Chief Minister of Manipur O. Ibobi but breaking of gallery for construction started only in March 2012 but since June there has been no construction activity whatsoever. This project too was supposed to be finished by March 2012.

On the same day of this foundation of sports complex, a foundation for 150 bedded hospital was laid and according to the representative, only 30% of the construction have been finished so far. The project was in collaboration between the State and Central Government with an investment of 24 crores. According to the S.O., Ashui Muivah have already sanctioned 8 crores from the state government.

The representatives appealed for inspection of the above mentioned projects from the concerned authorities and that if no action is taken till October, the organization with other civil organization will have start agitating against the government.
