IMPHAL, September 30: The month long observation of the Irabot month ended today with the ‘116th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot being observed throughout the state by different civil organizations.
The day is also reported to be observed in other countries as well, inclusive of Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Among the functions held separately by NGOs in the state, but yet held under a common theme, i.e. the birth anniversary of the legendary figure of Hijam Irabot, the state witnessed the anniversary observed with full fervor.
Among the main observations, the Hijam Irabot Memorial Trust held a function at Pishumtong Oinam Leikai today. The occasion was graced by Works Minister Kh Ratankumar as chief guest and MP Th Meinya as the president.
The guest of honour included Ng Nongyai, former member of Manipur Human Rights commission and former Minister L Jayantakumar.
The outset of today’s observance saw the dignitaries offering tribute to the statue of Hijam Irabot.
Afterwards, the chief guest, Kh Ratankumar and the other dignitaries received the march past contingents from 35 educational institutions.
During the latter part of the program, the chief guest in his speech mentioned that Hijam Irabot is remembered due to his selfless sacrifice.
Mentioning that the ethos laid down by him has been a guiding star, he said that if his footsteps are followed, then there will be a Manipur devoid of the unwanted predicaments faced at present by the public of the State.
He stated that Irabot brought about unification of the masses then, his objective was mainly focused on bringing about equality among the masses. Hence, the individuals working in different capacities should aim at conducting their work within principles and towards betterment of the society, he continued.
Further during the function, the lifetime achievement award was given to noted dramatist, Birjit Ngangomba.
Langonjam Biramangol from Tripura was awarded for the best writer, Ng Amumacha in the field of education, Joijailen Gangtae in Agriculture, Chingtham Ranjit for martial arts, Bir Chandra Football academy for propagating sports, Oinam Amuba Singh for indigenous games, Kh Sorojini Devi for best author, Laitonjam Brajamohan for drama, Ksh Chaoba for handicrafts and Ph Satyamala of Poknafam for the best journalist award.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony of the 10 days long Lamyanba Irabot Ningsing Thouram organized by Joint Students’ Co-ordination Committee was held today at D.M. College Commerce Hall.
It was organized under the theme “Ngasigi Manipurda Naharolgi Thoudang”.
Dr Arambam Lokendraji, Araba Angomcha, Konjengbam Chinglenkhomba Meitei, Pulindro Konsam, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar and Yenkokpam Priyokumar spoke as resource persons during the day.
The resource persons spoke about the sacrifices that Irabot made for the people of Manipur and how his ideologies will help the youth of today.
The resource persons covered the historically perspective of his life and the struggle that he pronounced unto the people so that the integrity of the land will not be broken down.
