Lift timber transport prohibition, urges HTC

MOREH, September 11: The Hill Tribal Council, HTC and the Moreh Route Bus Owners Welfare Union jointly called a press conference at the office chamber of the HTC this morning regarding the prohibition of sawn wood transportation along the National Highway 2.

A spokesperson announced during the conference that in case the government fail to bring an amicable solution to the issue by September 15, the two bodies will launched several agitations from the next day in collaboration with several civil society organizations of the town.

Speaking at the conference, HTC president Jangmang Haokip said the prohibition has not only affected the business community but many other daily wage earners.

It has also affected all those in the valley region of the state who want to build their houses with wood.

More than 30 vehicle that have already loaded their vehicles are stranded at the own due to the prohibition, he maintained.

He further appealed to the concerned authorities to bring an amicable solution by reintroducing the Timber Transit Pass (TP).

Speaking at the conference, Moreh Route Bus Owners Welfare Union spokespersons said his association had met with the state Forest Minister Th Debendra at the Minister’s office chamber on August 28. The meeting was also attended by Chandel MDC Chairman, Lutkhosei Zou, MLA, DK Korungthang.

During the meeting it was decided that the authorities will take up the necessary measures to bring a solution to the issue.

He maintained that even after the assurance, the authorities are yet to work on it.

In case the government fail to settle the issue by September 15, the union alongwith other civil societies will start agitations from the next day.
