Manipur: Hijam Irabot birth anniversary begins

Manipur, IMPHAL, September 1: The Irawat Celebration Committee, Manipur today organized the inaugural ceremony of the one month long observation of the 116th birth anniversary of Janeta Irawat at the Rupmahal Theatre, Imphal.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Moirangthem Ibohal (MI).

Speaking at the ceremony, Manipur State Council, CPI secretary, Dr M Nara elaborated on the need of making the anniversary observation a month long affair.

 

He continued that the state has been facing a crisis for some time now, but it is a global phenomenon, he added.

He said though there has been a rapid development in the fields of Science and Technology in the world, poverty is yet to be fully eradicated from even the most developed countries.

The state is facing several social injustices and struggles. He said kidnapping for ransom is rampant in the state and now everybody seems to be proposing a bandh or a blockade to get their demands.

Further elaborating on the plights of the people of the state, he briefed, that the three Ima Markets have been completed now, however there are several portions of all the three markets which are lying vacant.

Questioning why there are any vacant portions in the markets, he said it is an injustice to the women folk of the state and added that the people need to struggle against such justice.

He further assured his party’s support on the issue.

Further calling upon the people of the state joined in the struggle movement, he asked all to follow in the footsteps of the great leader.

Continuing his speech, he said that the state is in such a spot that the rich are only getting rich while the poor are getting only poorer and that there is no balance development in the state.

He further scorned that the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election is the worst election in the state so far and added that the upcoming panchayati election in the state is also a corrupt election.

He further called upon all those attending the month long observation and its organizers to bring education to the upfront and make the observation a grand success.

Meanwhile, former CPI MLA N Mangi in his speech said Irawat was a leader of the mass and he had never differentiated among the different communities and tribes settled in the state.

He further added that Irawat’s birth anniversary observation should not be limited to only deliberating only on his life.
