NAB seizes auto driver along with ganja

IMPHAL, September 22: A Narcotics and Affairs of Border team arrested an autorickshaw driver alongwith five bags of contraband ganja from Lamlong Bazar traffic island around 9:45am yesterday morning.

The ganja consignment was packed in five bags weighing around 120 kg approx. in total.

The said autorickshaw driver identified as Ngagom Ibomcha, 45 son of Ng Iboyaima of Sekta Mayai Leikai was produced before a team of local media persons at the NAB office this late morning.

NAB OC RK Bikramjeet said Ibomcha was arrested yesterday morning by a NAB team led by himself under the supervision of the NAB SP.

On getting information about the movement of a large consignment of contraband ganja in the area, his team were laying in wait at the Khurai Lamlong Bazar.

He continued that an autorickshaw bearing regd no MN 01 Y 8796 came along in a suspicious manner in the morning yesterday. On checking the vehicle, his team recovered the said consignment of ganja, he added.

The NAB officer said the ganja could be worth around Rs 1 lakh in the local market. The ganja is sold at Rs 800 per kg in the local market, he added.

He added a file has been chargesheeted against Ibomcha.

The vehicle belongs to one Ng Roben of Sekta Mayai Leikai.
